[Details/Reserve]
In March 1990, the Knoxville Museum of Art opened in its current 53,200 square-foot facility on the site of the 1982 World's Fair, which includes five galleries and two large gardens. Its focus has evolved to a focus on the culture—both old and new—of the Southern Appalachians. A permanent exhibition of works from the mid-nineteenth to the late-twentieth century throws a light on the visual arts of Knoxville and the region. This is supplemented by a host of changing exhibitions which occasionally include contemporary artists from outside the area. There is a museum shop on the premises. The museum is fully accessible to persons using wheelchairs, which are available for loan at the museum information desk. Accommodations for persons with other disabilities may be requested by contacting the museum at 865-525-6101.
